Category Image Did You know that you are hateful if you oppose illegal immigration?

Since "La Raza" is now proclaiming that the opposition to the dearly departed amnesty was hateful,  The Virtuous Republic will allow Satan to respond--after all, who knows more about hate than Satan.  First, take a look at what La Raza has to say:

The nation's largest Hispanic advocacy group says it must come up with a strategy to combat "a wave of hate" its leaders say came from talk radio's efforts to sink the Senate's immigration bill.

"That had an extraordinary impact in the Senate, and as a nation, I don't think we should be comfortable with the fact that the United States Senate responded to what was largely a wave of hate," Cecilia Munoz, the National Council of La Raza's senior vice president for research, advocacy and legislation, told The Washington Times after meeting with NCLR affiliates to talk about a new strategy.

Stung by the collapse of the immigration bill in the Senate last month, NCLR leaders and members at the group's annual convention in Miami Beach, which began yesterday, say they will have to start a campaign to register and mobilize voters, to warn against crossing the line in the debate and to force lawmakers to take a clear stand on what they are willing to tolerate.

"I think we have to shine a light on it," Ms. Munoz said. "At the end of the day, we believe people need to take sides, that you can't stand on the sidelines, especially if part of what is motivating the actions of the United States Congress is not really about the public-policy debate, but is about their discomfort with Latinos."

So let Satan get this straight.  La Raza, a Hispanic "advocacy" group felt:

• talk radio opposition to the amnesty bill was hateful

• the Senate succumbed to hate

• people don't like Latinos

• points to bills that would require people only get Social Security payments for the years worked legally in the U.S.

Additionally, Satan also understands La Raza supports:

• protecting remittances back to Central America

• opposes English as the official language of the U.S.

• wants to promote Spanish

We in Hell would like to point out what we hate:

• the fact that millions of people purposefully break our laws to enter our nation.  What do you usually call people who break the law?

• the fact that illegal workers steal the identity of American citizens to find work

• the fact that drivers licenses are obtained illegally

• the fact that illegal aliens do not have car insurance

• the fact that millions of illegal aliens took to American streets, protesting, and flying foreign flags

• the fact that American jails are filled by hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens

• the fact that illegal immigrants work for lower wages and thus deprive native Americans from competing for jobs

• the fact that millions of dollars are sent abroad in remittances, rather than spent supporting the American economy

Maybe if LaRaza and its leadership was more interested in assimilating into American culture than preserving Spanish heritage, they might have a passing acquaintance  with the foundations of a classical liberal society.  Natural rights, John Locke, the Declaration of Independence, Montesquieu, Madison, Jefferson, Hume, Harrington....

Despite your gut instinct to cry hate, you do not understand America very well.  It is a fundamental right to criticize.  It is a fundamental right to participate in politics.  It is a given that our elected officials will listen to the voice of the people.  Even if they need a swift kick in the pants to do so.  And it is a fundamental given that Americans become upset when foreigners fail to follow our laws.  The rule of law is what makes America different from Central and South American nations.

As all Americans are Lockeans by birth, you need to understand that we don't hate Latinos, we hate the actions of millions of people who crossed the border illegally and continue to break the laws of this tolerant nation on a daily basis.  And on the immigration issue, Americans have reached the limits of their generous tolerance.
