A Man of the People
It seems that John Edwards pays almost $400 for a haircut. For a man that talks about "two Americas", this is a little hard to take.
This is not a Democrat or Republican issue. Nor is it a conservative or liberal issue. This is about an out of touch elite that dominates both parties.
This elite is out of touch with normal Americans. Whether it is Al Gore who tells you to drive a smaller car and turn your thermostat down, who himself uses more electricity than several average American homes combined or John Edwards, who has a 28,000 sq.ft. home and regularly has his hair clipped for $400, these elites don't understand the plight of people who make a $1000 or less a week.
Frankly, I'm beginning to think that they aren't hypocrites, but just out of touch with "the other America". Seriously, maybe Gore has had such a pampered lifestyle that he doesn't realize that his electricity use is outrageous. Maybe he thinks everyone uses that much juice.
The same for Edwards. Maybe being wealthy, he doesn't understand that his home is 26,000 sq.ft. larger than the average American home. Maybe he doesn't realize that most men consider a $20 haircut at a barber expensive.
Unfortunately, men who don't understand how the other half lives, probably aren't the right people to address issues such as corporate pay excesses or the lack of well paying jobs for many Americans.
The only thing I begrudge towards Edwards, is that I'm not smart enough to tap into wallets of people like him who have to the cash to afford a $400 haircut.
