Category Image How Far Left is MoveOn? Ask Ben

Come on, the lefties argue, MoveOn isn't that extreme! How about we take a look at a MoveOn anti-war partner, called True Majority Action, which you can see listed at MoveOn's website.

While perusing True Majority's site, I came across a video made by Ben of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream fame.

In a typical anti-war, anti-military, and anti-U.S. fashion, he takes a stand against the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

He drops BB's on a screen and argues that the U.S. keeps an arsenal of 150,000 Hiroshima type bombs, "enough to destroy" Russia.

Then, in typical leftist fashion, the video claims that if only we didn't keep nuclear weapons, we could make life a paradise in the U.S. Click on Ben's picture to watch the video yourself. bensbbs_270x170.gif

The self-hatred and the enmity for the United States is obvious in their words and actions. Notice, Ben says we have enough weapons to destroy Russia. He never mentions the stockpiles of our enemies. Because of course the truth might get in the way. And, like any good little leftist, he believes that only the U.S. is the source of war in the world.

What would happen if the U.S. had no nuclear deterrent? Would Russia, China, India, or Pakistan disarm? Would the U.S. be safe from nuclear blackmail? Naivety can be dangerous when the rest of the world does not share your values.

Then Ben claims we have 150,000 Hiroshima type nuclear bombs. That is so disingenuous, we might as well call it distorting the truth. Even if one were to count our entire stockpile of nuclear weapons, not active weapons, just our stockpile, the American arsenal of nuclear weapons tops out at 9,300 nuclear weapons. That pales alongside the Russian inventory of 16,000 nuclear devices.

Nothing like distorting the truth to try to make the U.S.A. look like a war mongering nation. Stick to selling ice cream buddy. It is ice cream, right?

And as far as making the argument that by keeping a nuclear arsenal, the U.S. is somehow hurting the poor and of course the children, that is simply being dishonest once again. In 2006, with a budget of $2.6 trillion, our nation spent  $1.3 trillion on social welfare programs. If that isn't enough money to solve our nation's problems, what in the hell is $17 billion going to do?

I do know one thing, if we didn't keep a nuclear arsenal, our national security would be in jeopardy, as unlike the left, I know that the evil in the world tends to come from places outside America.
