The Left: Lantos Loves Loon
Here is another example of the left's fascination with our nation's enemies. Tom Lantos, Democrat, who just returned with Nancy Pelosi from their great defeatist diplomatic offensive, says he would like to meet with Iran's Ahmadinejad.
Now, before I get to the heart of this story, first let me address the automatic response from the left that "Republican presidents have cozied up to dictators in the past." Yes they have, but their is a big difference between the left's surrender to these thugs and real politick. You see, past presidents have allied with dictators and other scum (yes, I'll admit to that) to promote the national interest of the United States and its allies. Pelosi and Lantos and the left in general tend to see the Irans and the Syrias of this world as misunderstood nations, who would join the brotherhood of nations, if only the United States foreign policy wasn't so imperialistic and Zionistic. There is a big difference in aligning oneself with the dictators of the world to advance the national interest versus prostrating yourself before them to undermine your nation.
Even though Iran's Ahmadinejad has threatened to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, Lantos, a Holocaust survivor, is naive enough to think he can reason with a tyrant, whose religion considers Jews less than human. Lantos is quoted as saying:
Pelosi's response to Lantos's statement, at first seems reasoned, but then the left's favorite new code word for surrender creeps in, "dialogue.""Speaking just for myself, I would be ready to get on a plane tomorrow morning, because however objectionable, unfair and inaccurate many of (Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's) statements are, it is important that we have a dialogue with him,'' Lantos said. "Speaking for myself, I'm ready to go -- and knowing the speaker, I think that she might be.''
Dialogue? Exactly what kind of dialogue do you hold with a nation that wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth with nuclear weapons. Do you find what you have in common? Let's see, we here in the U.S. believe that people are created equal and have equal rights before the law. You in Iran oppress your women, oppress your religious minorities and want to nuke Israel. What exactly do we have in common?"I find the president of Iran's remarks to be so repulsive that they are outside the circle of civilized human behavior,'' Pelosi said, referring to Ahmadinejad's past comments that Israel should be wiped off the face of the map and his questioning of the existence of the Holocaust.
"But a person of Mr. Lantos' stature and personal experience is saying that -- even as a Holocaust survivor and even recognizing the outrageous statements of the president of Iran -- it's important to have dialogue. I think that speaks volumes.''
