The View from Hell on SCHIP
The Democrats and their far left allies have criticized Bush's veto of the greatly expanded SCHIP program.
Never mind that the poster child trotted out by Reid and Pelosi came from a middle class family and was already covered by SCHIP.
Never mind Bush had no intention of CUTTING this already blotted program and never mind that middle class children like the one thrown to wolves by Reid and Pelosi will continue to receive their government subsidy.
No, the left started lying and screaming that Bush was taking healthcare away from the poor children.
What is the truth about SCHIP? The truth is that the program has ALREADY expanded beyond its original purpose to cover poor children who didn't qualify for Medicaid. Right now, states already cover the middle class and adults. It is morphing into a national healthcare program. Bush's veto is simply meant to stop this program from expanding even more.
According to the states’ budget projections, 13 will spend more than 44 percent of their SCHIP funds in 2008 on people who are neither children nor pregnant women.
Michigan tops the list with 71.6 percent of its SCHIP money earmarked for adults who have no kids. In New Mexico, 52.3 percent of the state’s SCHIP dollars will be spent on childless adults.
