Scary Immigration Facts from the Migration Policy Institute
Who is coming to the United States as immigrants? That is a fair question to ask and the Migration Policy Institute has an answer as it applies to legal immigrants. One important characteristic to look at is the level of education of recent immigrants.
The first chart looks at the education level of all recent immigrants as of 2005.

Thirty two percent don't have a high school education? And we allow these people to enter our nation? Satan has to ask you this question. Of that strata of recent immigrants who have less than a high school education, what percentage do you think are on the government dole?
Next, let's look at the education level of those emigrating from Asia and Africa.

From both Asia and Africa, it seems we draw a fair amount of people who not only have high school educations, both also, many have college degrees. Some of the numbers, as it relates to higher degrees are pretty impressive. From perusing the chart, Satan would say that it is fairly safe to assume that we are attracting, for the most part, the smarter and more well to do immigrants from this part of the world.
Let's look at South American émigrés.

Even from South America, we draw a fair amount of educated people.
Now we move on to Central America and the Caribbean.

Anyone see a red flag here? Overall, 55% of immigrants from Central America lack a high school education. Specifically, 61% of recent immigrants (and remember, these are legal immigrants, so what do you think the illegal alien numbers look like?) from Mexico didn't finish high school. Obviously, compared to Asia or Africa, we aren't attracting the best and the brightest, but the illiterate, semi-illiterate, and the poorly educated. Nothing good can come of importing immigrants who have undesirable skills and knowledge levels. But I guess big business gets cheap labor, the rich get cheap nannies and pool cleaners, and the rest of us get stuck with bill.
As you can plainly see, Mexico supplies the United States with the most immigrants, as noted in the chart below.

Yet Mexico also supplies us with the most uneducated number of immigrants. From these charts, I would think a reasonable person might draw the conclusion that it is a mistake to take largest amount of immigrants from a country, i.e., Mexico, that supplies us with the most people without high school degrees.
Bottom line, do we need to keep importing millions of people who are likely to be employed at minimal wages, and who will likely have to apply for government assistance to survive or do we want to encourage immigration from countries that supply us with engineers, doctors, and scientists and people who will be self-sufficient and add to our nation's productivity? Field hand or rocket scientist, that is the question.
Truly, we are importing the worst aspects of the third world from Mexico. We need to change this insane policy or the United States will start looking like a third world country itself.
