I ran across these (be warned, very graphic pictures) pictures of burqa covered women being executed by the Taliban while researching the deaths of nine of our service men in Afghanistan yesterday.

For the life of me, I couldn’t figure why the AP embedded these photos with the news of the deaths of our troops. Unfortunately, I didn’t pounce on the story, but Rusty at MyPetJawa did, here.

Here are some screenshots, from the original AP story, to give you an idea of what is going on (click on them for a larger image):

My first reaction to this story and the selection of these execution pictures that are included with it, was that the author of the story was trying to get a “point” across. And that point? The Americans are weak and the Taliban have reestablished not only physical control, but they have reimposed their totalitarian form of Islam and that there is nothing NATO can do about it.

I might be wrong with that interpretation, but if it isn’t on the money, then why didn’t the AP run a story highlighting these executions as a great moral tragedy or as a crime against women?  This particular AP writer had a motive and it was to make the Taliban look more powerful than there really are (or conversely, make the U.S. look like they are losing).

Secondly, look at the pictures taken by Rahmatullah Naikzad. This wasn’t a chance encounter. He has close connections to the Taliban and that is simply unexceptable and the AP should be held accountable on a number issues.

• The Taliban harbored and were implicitly responsible for the attack on the U.S. in 2001. Yet, the AP has no qualms allowing its employee to associate with a government (in exile so to speak) that the U.S. is at war with.

For those that need a picture, would it had be acceptable for an American photographer to have “chance encounters” with Nazis in 1943?

Wasn’t okay then, isn’t now.

The Taliban are murderers. The Taliban oppress women and minorities. The Taliban respect neither life, liberty, nor property. The Taliban are enemies of the American people.

Okay, some might argue that Rahmatullah Naikzad might not be an American citizen. Then, it falls to the Afghan government to pursue Mr. Rahmatullah Naikzad for collaborating with its enemy. If he is an Afghan, he has much to answer to. If he is a foreign national, I’d say he is in even greater trouble.

• The AP has allowed the deaths of two women to be used a propaganda by enemies of the United States.

• Did Rahmatullah Naikzad know that he was going to witness an execution? If so, he was morally, if not legally required to do something to prevent it.

• Did they ask him what his relationship with the Taliban is?

The bottom line, if these photos had been used to highlight the plight of women in Afghanistan or if they had been used to show the brutality of the Taliban, they might be of moral value, but as is, embedded in the news story linked above, the death of these women is being used as propaganda for the enemy of this nation.

I do have a free suggestion to our military. Follow Mr. Rahmatullah Naikzad with a Predator, track him and if his pictures are any indication, he’ll lead you to a nice fat target of Taliban.

Now if that’s the AP’s ultimate intention, then everything is just fine….
