Oil rose to $141 a barrel today:
Oil closed at a new record near $141 a barrel Tuesday on worries about tight supply and mounting tensions in the Middle East. In the U.S., prices at the gas pump edged to their highest point yet.
Crude prices resumed their advance as the head of the International Energy Agency said the world is experiencing its “third oil price shock,” comparing the effects of today’s prices with the oil crises that began with the 1973 Arab oil embargo and the 1979 revolution in Iran. Read more…
What hurts even more, our political class seems clueless, as if they are caught in the headlines of an economic mess they are ill equipped to handle. Yesterday we had the Senate Majority Leader say something really stupid, and today, the Secretary of the Treasury just throws up his hands:
Meanwhile, during a visit to Berlin, U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said “there don’t seem to be any obvious short-term solutions” to soaring oil prices.
No short term solutions? How about this, even CBS is on the oil shale bandwagon!
Cut the red tape and get it done. We’ve sent a man to the moon in less than ten years. We produced a nuclear bomb in less than four. Surely we can tap our shale oil supplies rather quickly.
It is a matter of will and leadership. The Democrats oppose prosperity for American and the Republicans are incompetent.
Now is the time to get involved. Call your Representative. Call your Senator. Call the Whitehouse. Demand that we drill for oil and tap our shale oil reserves.
