I’ve been in a funk for the last few days.  How many times can you not only say, but prove, that Obama is a communist and an America hater?

One tends to get burnt out pointing out how the left is ruining our nation by abandoning our founding political ideas, spending our nation into third world status, and endangering our sovereignty by engaging in their anti-America fantasies.

Yet Tom Friedman of the New York Times has managed to pull me from my self-pity with a column so full of ignorance, that it simply shocked the malaise right out of me.

As a blanket statement, Friedman is the perfect example of the problem with the left.  Like their Soviet progenitors, ideology overrides everything else, including reason.  America’s left has abandoned the gift of the Age of Reason.  Everything is viewed through the lenses of Marxist tainted dogma.  Logic be damned.

That government spending could lift this nation out of a recession, despite the history of the Soviet Union, Maoist China, and even our New Deal,— today’s Marxocrats implemented a discredited economic plan anyway.  History, economics, and facts have no bearing for our modern apparatchiks.

So, instead of applying market solutions to our health system, our far left Democratic party is literally willing to create an American version of the Gosplan for health care, despite the tangible evidence that our own government is incompetent and wasteful and despite the fact the Soviet Union’s economy imploded because top down economic planning simply was not capable of directing a modern economy.

An entire nation disappeared because of the failure of its government managed economy.  Yet our Marxocrats want to try it here.

What the hell, we already have the Gosbank and the Gossnab…

As bad as all that is, Friedman simply infuriates me with his loyalty to the Party Line of Global Warming and his attitude smacks of the disdain that the CPSU had for the peasants:

Party leaders viewed themselves as culturally superior and saw resistance to their mission as “backwardness”  – a word that “stood for everything that belonged to old Russia and needed to be changed in the name of progress and culture.

Let’s start off with Friedman’s faulty assumption on the supply of oil:

They believe it is much better for America that the world be dependent on oil for energy — a commodity largely controlled by countries that hate us and can only go up in price as demand increases — rather than on clean power technologies that are controlled by us and only go down in price as demand increases.

Friedman prattles on about how as more people drive cars overseas, oil will become more and more scarce.  And in the world of the Democrats Marxocrats, that might very well be true.  See, the dirty secret is that the Democrats Communist Party of America have made this scenario come true by making our own oil supplies off-limits:

nodrill

(cribbed from Gatewaypundit)

That’s right, the environmental wing of the American Communist Party has made sure that most of our offshore oil reserves remain untapped.

It gets worse, American shale, which contains at least 2 trillion, that’s right, 2 trillion barrels of oil (see Energy Department report), which would last America for hundreds of years, is now off limits as well.  See this report for details.

See Mr. Friedman, your Marxist theology requires you to not only ignore the facts, but it requires you to create a new reality.

Global Warming is no different from when the Soviet Union collectivized their farm lands in the 1930s.  While the plans to “move us to green energy” will not kill millions of Americans, this new state directed energy paradigm will destroy our standard of living just as the collectivization in the Ukraine caused famine.

While I’m all for modern energy technologies and I hope such things as fusion, solar, nuclear, and hydro power sources are exploited and developed, right now, and tomorrow, and next year, and twenty years from now, oil and gasoline will not be replaced by these energy sources and the internal combustion engine will not be superseded by the electric engine.

An effete easterner like Friedman lives in a Marxist utopia where electric cars will replace your combustion engine:

“What happens when developing nations with soaring vehicle populations get tens of millions of petroleum-powered cars at the same time as the global economy recovers and there’s no large global oil supply overhang?” asks Felix Kramer, the electric car expert who advocates electrifying the U.S. auto fleet and increasingly powering it with renewable energy sources.

What  our eastern self-appointed intellectual fails to note that is the electric car of today and tomorrow is inadequate for the rest of America.  A forty or fifty mile range?  What happens when your government approved electric car has to carry three people?  What happens to its range?  What happens when you load it down with groceries?  Does its range drop to 20 miles?

What happens to the batteries in a bitterly cold winter?  How much energy will be drained as you drive through a snow storm?  How do you recharge your batteries in a convenient time frame?  It won’t be like filling your tank with gas that takes all of 5 minutes.

Then, how do you carry lumber in an electric car?  Or the baseball team?  Or the one hundred everyday things that most Americans do outside the zones of Marxism, decay, and decadence?  Electric cars of today aren’t the answer.  They are simply the solution to a problem that doesn’t exist, being forced upon America by a cadre of leftists who think themselves better, smarter, and more enlightened than the yahoos outside of their local soviet.

Friedman then lobs another whopper that, of course, has to include an eerie cult of personality fetish with this mention of Obama’s astounding omniscience that will drag us to the valley of a green utopia:

And we believe the best way to launch E.T. is to set a fixed, long-term price on carbon — combine it with the Obama team’s impressive stimulus for green-tech — and then let the free market and innovation do the rest.

Here’s Obama’s “green-tech” stimulus–ONE PERCENT OF $62 Billion in terms of tax breaks:

Estimated Dollars Available Pie Chart

And green energy is such an important goal for Chairman Barack President Obama, that our Energy Department was awarded only $38 billion from the $787 billion Stimulus of which only $1.3 billion dollars have been spent so far:

Picture 1

Obama’s foresight and planning on “green-tech” will go down in history with other great government programs like the “Great Leap Forward” or the collectivization of the farms in the Ukraine in 1932 and 1933.

Which brings us to the delightfully tasteful timing of Friedman’s article.  As the Politburo of Global Warming attempts to impose its form of communism upon us:

Green hawks believe otherwise. We believe that in a world getting warmer and more crowded with more “Americans,” the next great global industry is going to be E.T., or energy technology based on clean power and energy efficiency. It has to be. And we believe that the country that invents and deploys the most E.T. will enjoy the most economic security, energy security, national security, innovative companies and global respect. And we believe that country must be America. If not, our children will never enjoy the standard of living we did. And we believe the best way to launch E.T. is to set a fixed, long-term price on carbon — combine it with the Obama team’s impressive stimulus for green-tech — and then let the free market and innovation do the rest.

So, as I said, you don’t believe in global warming? You’re wrong, but I’ll let you enjoy it until your beach house gets washed away. (bold mine)

That is the crux of situation, the “Green Marxists” of the Democratic Party want to destroy your standard of living, destroy capitalism, and impose a government planned economy.

And it is built on a lie!  As we have found out from recently exposed emails, from the nerve center of the global warming movement, the data has been cooked!

The very scientists who promote global warming seem to have a dirty secret which they expressed to each other in recently obtained emails from the University of East Anglia, from where much of the world’s research on global warming originates:

8.15 PM UPDATE: The Hadley University of East Anglia CRU director admits the emails seem to be genuine:

The director of Britain’s leading Climate Research Unit, Phil Jones, has told Investigate magazine’s TGIF Edition tonight …”It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails.”…

TGIF asked Jones about the controversial email discussing “hiding the decline”, and Jones explained what he was trying to say….

So the 1079 emails and 72 documents seem indeed evidence of a scandal involving most of the most prominent scientists pushing the man-made warming theory – a scandal that is one of the greatest in modern science. I’ve been adding some of the most astonishing in updates below – emails suggesting conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more. If it is as it now seems, never again will “peer review” be used to shout down sceptics.

This is clearly not the work of some hacker, but of an insider who’s now blown the whistle.

Not surprising, then, that Steve McIntyre reports:

Earlier today, CRU cancelled all existing passwords. Actions speaking loudly.

But back to the original post – and the most astonishing of the emails so far…

***************

Hackers have broken into the data base of the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit - one of the world’s leading alarmist centres – and put the files they stole on the Internet, on the grounds that the science is too important to be kept under wraps.

The ethics of this are dubious, to say the least. But the files suggest, on a very preliminary glance, some other very dubious practices, too, and a lot of collusion – sometimes called “peer review”. Or even conspiracy.

A warning, of course. We can only say with a 90 per cent confidence interval that these emails are real.

(ALTERNATIVE link to the files. And another link.)

UPDATE

Ethics alert! (my bolding – and I’ve update this post with the full alleged email, now):

Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,

Once Tim’s got a diagram here we’ll send that either later today or first thing tomorrow.

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.

Thanks for the comments, Ray.

Cheers

Nice. This could be fun.

UPDATE 2

Surely these emails can’t be genuine. Surely the world’s most prominent alarmist scientists aren’t secretly exchanging emails like this, admitting privately they can’t find the warming they’ve been so loudly predicting?:

Hi all

Well I have my own article on where the heck is global warming ? We are asking that here in Boulder where we have broken records the past two days for the coldest days on record. We had 4 inches of snow. The high the last 2 days was below 30F and the normal is 69F, and it smashed the previous records for these days by 10F. The low was about 18F and also a record low, well below the previous record low.

This is January weather (see the Rockies baseball playoff game was canceled on saturday and then played last night in below freezing weather).

Trenberth, K. E., 2009: An imperative for climate change planning: tracking Earth’s global energy. Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability, 1, 19-27, doi:10.1016/j.cosust.2009.06.001. [1][PDF] (A PDF of the published version can be obtained from the author.)

The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.***

This has to be a forgery, surely. Because if it isn’t, we’re about to see the unpicking of a huge scandal.

I mean, the media will follow this up, right? In the meantime, use with care.

UPDATE 3

Have I said “conspiracy” already?

From: Tom Wigley
To: Phil Jones
Subject: LAND vs OCEAN

We probably need to say more about this. Land warming since 1980 has been twice the ocean warming — and skeptics might claim that this proves that urban warming is real and important.

See attached note.

Comments?

Mike,

Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith re AR4?

Keith will do likewise. He’s not in at the moment – minor family crisis.

Can you also email Gene and get him to do the same? I don’t have his new email address.

We will be getting Caspar to do likewise.

I see that CA claim they discovered the 1945 problem in the Nature paper!!

Destroying government data subject to an FOI request is a criminal offence. Is this data being deleted the stuff CA asked from Jones in repeated FOI requests? If true, Jones had better get himself a lawyer very fast, but I doubt very much he would have done anything remotely illegal.

UPDATE 4

This, if true (caution!), is especially sick.  (Note; John Daly was a Tasmanian sceptic who did superb work, especially on sea level rises on the “Isle of the Dead”).  I’ve added the boldening):

Mike,
In an odd way this is cheering news ! One other thing about the CC paper – just found another email – is that McKittrick says it is standard practice in Econometrics journals to give all the data and codes !! According to legal advice IPR overrides this.

“It is with deep sadness that the Daly Family have to announce the sudden death of John Daly.Condolences may be sent to John’s email account (daly@XXXX)

Reported with great sadness

The entire reason for their Green Marxism is built on a lie.  Cooked data, outright lies.

That would make seem then to make Friedman a fool.

That makes global warming a cultish ideological movement aimed against all free peoples.

Those of us who lived under the threat of the Soviet Union have always known that communism was built on the lie that the state has more power than the people and that the bureaucracy is smarter than the individual.

How and when did Das Kapital replace natural law as the driving force of our nation?

  1. skytrace says:

I don’t think many people know this, but the electric engine is just as old as the combustion engine….electric cars were being driven by women during the turn of the 20th century!

If everyone knew this, then they would understand better why electric cars never dominated the auto industry. They have only been considered novelities for the reasons you stated above.

Maybe we can ride the Wayback machine further into time: the most eco-friendly engine would be a mule on a treadmill. Perhaps it will come to that.

Thank you Comrade Obama and Your Glorious 8-Year Plan!
