I experienced this first hand.  I sent in my renewal paper work on August 20 figuring that even an incompetent bureaucracy could get my tags to me by October 4th.  Unfortunately, I was wrong and had to run to the local DMV (which I should have done in the first place) where I had to pay another $5 to get duplicate renewal tags.

Just imagine how Ohio will handle your health care issues.

Ohioans who mailed in their vehicle registration renewal forms may not get what they were expecting in return from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Instead of license plates or stickers, many motorists are receiving letters extending their current registration by 45 days.

Lindsay Komlanc, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Public Safety, said equipment upgrades have slowed processing and created a backlog of renewal requests that officials are working to clear.

Drivers should carry the letters in their vehicles until they get their new registration.

Ohio processes about 2 million mailed renewals each year, she said.

The majority of the about 12 million vehicles registered in Ohio are renewed by phone, (1-866-675-2837) online (oplates.com) or at a deputy registrar office, Komlanc said.

Delays began in late September when the machines that scan mailed renewal applications were adjusted after some fees increased on Oct. 1.  Read more….
