Obama was billed as the smartest man in the room.  He would restore America’s prestige abroad and he would do so by, in essence, being nicer.

In reality, Obama’s foreign policy is based upon the left’s innate hatred of America.  They see the U.S. as a source of evil in the world (and they have no clue to the significance of the Declaration and the Constitution as the first governmental embodiment of the concept of individual liberty guaranteed by limited government) and they act accordingly when abroad.

Obama spends more time either talking about himself, as most self-centered leftists tend to do or he apologizes for what he sees as America’s missteps throughout the years in the conduct of its foreign policy.

To that end, Obama abruptly ended our missile defense plan with Eastern Europe, because, once again, in the mind of the leftist that he is, we were antagonizing the Russians and we were the cause of our souring relations.

Without extracting any concessions from a newly belligerent Russia, Obama naively believed that a gesture of goodwill would be returned by the Russians.

Any student of Russian history could have told the administration that Russians, conditioned by over a millennium of invasions, view any gesture, even of goodwill, by a foreign policy as suspicious and that Obama didn’t ask anything for in return, the Kremlin more than likely saw the abandonment of the missile defense grid as American weakness.

While the White House probably expected the Russians to return the favor, most likely in regards to Iran, that isn’t going to happen.  American gave away their bargaining card for free and the Russians know it.  Thus, their recent message that they will not support sanctions against Iran.

Pressuring Iran and threatening further sanctions over its nuclear programme would be counter-productive, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says.

Speaking after talks in Moscow with US counterpart Hillary Clinton, Mr Lavrov said every effort should be made to continue negotiations.

His comments appeared to fall short of the tougher commitment sought by Washington towards Iran.  Read more….

The problem is, that the leftists now in charge of American foreign policy will not learn from their mistakes–remember, they are the “smart” ones.  Second, so long as they view America as inherently malevolent, they will ignore the true nature of our enemies and in the process weaken our national security.

All hail the new American intelligentsia.
