Why should Democrat, Steve Driehaus, from Ohio’s 1st District, care about the average person, after all, he makes $174,000 and gets a COLA (cost of living allowance), automatically, every year that helps to defray inflation—say like the coming spike in energy prices if cap and trade is passed by the Senate.
I’m going to ask a question of all you hard core Democrats out there, isn’t the Democratic Party supposed to be the party of the “little man”, of the “working man?” Now hold that answer for a second and read on….
Yet, here is what Steve Driehaus, Democrat, had to say about the energy tax that he voted for (see this article for all the details):
Driehaus said that should mean no more than a 5-10 percent increase in electric rates. Read more….
Driehaus nonchalantly throws out the “5-10%” increase as if he gets a yearly cost of living adjustment…oh wait, he does and apparently he doesn’t care what a 10% monthly increase in your electric bill will do to your family budget.
Okay Democrats, how is Driehaus, Democrat, for the working man? For the little guy?
It gets worse and I hate to say this of a fellow classmate, but either Driehaus is lying or he isn’t too bright, but he maintains that cap and trade will create jobs in Ohio:
A recent MIT study for the Center for American Progress estimated the climate bill and federal stimulus money combined would create more than 67,000 jobs in Ohio.
Now I ask you this, remember when Obama swore that his Stimulus would create jobs nation wide? Remember? So what has the stimulus brought Ohio? A lot of misery and no jobs as unemployment skyrocketed to 10.8% in May. Just in case you are interested, the stimulus, as of right this second, is offering an astounding 6 jobs in Ohio courtesy of the Federal Government. Cap and trade, like the stimulus, takes money out of the economy—even Keynes predicted that taxation retards economic growth.
That this tax, in the name of global warming will create 67,000 “green” jobs in Ohio is laughable upon its face. Let’s look at this logically:
- Electric rates climb, and as Ohio is dependent upon coal for power, businesses will move to areas with cheaper energy. Democrat Driehaus has already conceded this point.
- Consumers are hit with increased prices as retail stores pass along their higher energy costs. Residents move away.
- Residents, saddled with higher electric rates and gasoline prices spend less and that means fewer people employed at the retail level and for those who still do produce things in Ohio, that means less demand and thus layoffs.
Steve Driehaus and the Democrats aren’t concerned with global warming. They are simply using it to increase the scope of government and in the process lower your standard of living. Cap and Trade will not clean the air and it will not create jobs. It will on the other hand, significantly increase your burdens as the cost of living and taxes dramatically rise.
I’ll ask one more time, aren’t the Democrats supposed to be for the little guy?
