Folks, in the last week, we’ve seen a rift in the space-time continuum develop, where our President Obama intermittently changes place with his evil twin from a parallel universe.  And my mom thought Star Trek was stupid.

In fact, I have photographic evidence (at least up to the standards of the tabloids anyway) of the existence of the evil Obama.

First, here we have a picture of our President Obama, touting his almost $800 billion stimulus package just last week in the West wing of the White House.

Despite all the White House hoopla Monday about “fiscal responsibility,” Washington is showing little inclination to practice what it’s preaching.

Our President Obama passing out hundreds to state governors

The $787 billion stimulus package that President Barack Obama signed Feb. 17 adds an estimated $185 billion to the already-record federal deficit for fiscal 2009, pushing it up to about $1.4 trillion. That’s a whopping 10 percent of the gross domestic product, the highest level since the end of World War II.

The measure’s full of projects that Democrats, who are in charge of the legislative and executive branches for the first time since 1994, have sought for years, and it’s questionable whether many of those provide the economy much of a short-term boost.

Even more such projects are included in the next round of legislation, a $410 billion spending plan for the rest of fiscal 2009 that the House of Representatives is to consider Wednesday.

That package would spend about 8 percent more than the same programs got last year, the second biggest annual increase since 1978 for discretionary spending, programs that the government isn’t required to fund, unlike Social Security and Medicare.  Read more….

So our universe Obama is spending like, like, a Republican, a drunken sailor, a Democrat.  $800 billion for a stimulus that just throws money at every leftist project, a federal budget that includes an 8 percent spending increase (except for defense, which gets cut), and a proposed $275 housing bailout:

Obama’s $275 billion program offers $75 billion in incentives to lenders to lower payments by at-risk homeowners to 31 percent of their income. The other $200 billion would be drawn from money approved by last year’s Congress to bolster efforts by federal lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to offer affordable mortgages and bring stability to the housing market.  Read more….

So we have our President, who in addition to Bush’s TARP money of $700 billion, added another $800 billion to our deficit and now wants to spend another $275 billion for a housing bailout and, whose next year budget increases by 8%–so worried about deficit spending, that he called for a “Fiscal Responsibility Summit” at the White House today. Oh, and I forgot, he hasn’t even got to his health care agenda, yet.

The fiscal responsibility summit President Barack Obama hosted at the White House on Monday included breakout discussions of key issues in five different areas. A summary of each of the 90-minute sessions…. Link

And more….

President Barack Obama’s ambitious goal of cutting the federal deficit in half relies on a perfect — some might say improbable — convergence of factors: a recovered economy, a tax boost for the rich and success in easing foreign entanglements.

In calling for a deficit of about $530 billion in four years, Obama has established a marker by which to measure his first-term performance as president. The dollar figure could be his albatross or his badge of success.

“This will not be easy,” Obama said Monday as he kicked off a fiscal summit at the White House. “It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we’ve long neglected.”

For Obama, the challenge is clear: He will have to increase spending on health care and energy if he wants to accomplish the policy overhaul he promised during his campaign, yet he also needs to cut spending elsewhere and increase revenue to meet his deficit goal.  Link

So what explains our President’s sudden policy changes on spending?  Is he unstable?  At first I thought so, but after seeing this picture from today’s “Fiscal Responsibility Summit”, I think our President Obama has been replaced by his evil double from an alternate universe.  I mean, what else can explain the wild swings from a fiscal free-for-all to a semi-fiscal free-for-all?

That’s great. Star Trek was almost prophetic in so many things. People can laugh at it, laugh at Kirk all they want to. So many of the things introduced in Star Trek episodes have since become reality. I think Obama does have an alter ego, maybe several of them.

  2. Thanks Debbie,
