As part of an on going series, The Virtuous Republic, from time to time, scans the headlines, looking for illegal aliens involved in criminal activities.
Why do we pick on illegal immigrants? Are we trying to paint all illegals as criminals? Those are the questions that the pro-illegal immigration lobby asks….
First, all illegal immigrants are guilty of breaking American law and in that sense, they are criminals. Do we think that all illegal immigrants are murderers, rapists, and drug dealers-certainly not.
Do they commit crimes that Americans won’t do? If that were only the case…. Human nature is human nature. Illegal or citizen.
Do we hate illegal aliens? Certainly not. As a subscriber to the Natural Rights Theory, all men are endowed by their Creator with certain rights and equalities and we recognize and honor that. On the other hand, the humanity of the illegal immigrant does not give them the right cross our borders illegally. It isn’t the person I hate, it is the act of violating our laws and the subsequent costs of illegal immigration that we oppose.
Our mission in reporting these matters is to simply highlight one of the many negative effects of illegal immigration. As a country, we simply do not know who is entering our nation. And even when we do deport criminal aliens, there is no physical barrier to hinder their return to the United States. Unlike most crime, crimes committed by illegal aliens are very preventable, but as these stories prove, the U.S. in essence, is allowing them to happen by not securing our borders.
In Huntington, West Virginia:
Eduardo Fuentes-Gonzales, 23, of Mexico was sentenced to eight months in prison. He had pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien who re-entered the United States after he was removed in December 2006.
Fuentes-Gonzales was ordered to be deported and spend one year supervised release. The supervised release will be inactive once he is deported. He would have to complete the one-year probation term, if he re-enters the country legally.
Authorities found Fuentes-Gonzales on Aug. 15, 2007, near Point Pleasant, W.Va., in Mason County. He had been deported on May 23, 2006, and Dec. 9, 2006.
The December removal followed a May 31, 2005, arrest in Tennessee. He was charged with manufacturing/selling a controlled substance, according to court documents. Link
From Wisconsin:
Julian Cervantes-Garcia, 29, a resident of Mexico, was sentenced to 60 months in prison by U.S. District Judge John C. Shabaz on Wednesday for illegally reentering the United States after having been previously deported.
Cervantes-Garcia, who had been living in Monroe County, pleaded guilty to the charge on Nov. 20, 2007. Shabaz increased Cervantes-Garcia’s sentence significantly because he found his criminal history showed a trend of violence toward others and that he presented a significant danger to others. Link
From Maryland:
A judge sentenced a Woodlawn man to 60 days in jail yesterday after finding him guilty of fracturing the jaw of a disabled man who was in his care at a group home in Columbia in 2006.
Howard County Circuit Judge Lenore R. Gelfman also ordered Michael Iniobong Udom, 37, of Cedar Heights Court to anger-management classes and five years of probation. Gelfman found him guilty of second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult by a caregiver.
Prosecutors said Udom, an illegal immigrant, was attempting to feed a patient at a group home run by the Arc of Howard County for the developmentally disabled, where he was a caregiver. Link
All the way up in Alaska:
A man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for a conviction of distributing a kilogram of cocaine, the U.S. attorney’s office said Monday.
Rodolfo Deleon Martinez, also known as Benito Hernandez-Vega, was part of a drug distribution organization consisting of Mexican nationals in the U.S., federal prosecutor Stephan A. Collins said in a prepared statement. Martinez, 31, was an illegal alien who was living in Anchorage, the federal attorney’s office said.
Prosecutors said the organization was composed of legal, permanent U.S. residents and illegal immigrants. It distributed more than 40 kilograms of cocaine in Anchorage over a two-year period, the agency said. Link
Down in South Carolina:
U.S. District Judge R. Bryan Harwell sentenced a Pageland resident to 10 months in prison for being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to a press release issued by U.S. Attorney Reginald I. Lloyd on Tuesday.
After serving his sentence, 47-year-old Juan Casterjon Gaspar will be subject to deportation.
In June, Chesterfield County sheriff’s deputies and State Law Enforcement Division agents were preparing for a controlled drug purchase operation scheduled to take place later that evening near Pageland when Gaspar approached carrying a shotgun. After being told to drop his weapon, Gaspar started to point the loaded .20-gauge shotgun at the officer when he was being arrested.
When interviewed, Gaspar admitted he’s been in the United States illegally for 17 years. Link
Over to Virginia:
An illegal immigrant from Guatemala has been ordered to serve 40 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of a Manassas man.
Twenty-year-old Marvin Rodriguez-Barrera was sentenced Thursday and faces deportation after the prison term.
He was convicted in October of first-degree murder and criminal gang participation in the November 2006 slaying of Charles Angelos Jr. Prosecutors say Rodriguez-Barrera was part of an attack by the MS-13 gang. Angelos was chased and beaten by gang members, then Rodriguez-Barrera stabbed him. Link
In Florida:
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Bay County sheriff’s office say they’ve busted a group of illegal aliens involved in cocaine trafficking. Investigators they served a search warrant at a home on Dorothy Avenue Monday and found almost 350-grams of powder cocaine and 16-thousand dollars cash.
Over their 2-month investigation of this operation, they say they seized a total of 750-grams of cocaine worth 75-thousand dollars, the 16-thousand in cash and 3-vehicles.
Investigators also found blank and fake identification in the home. The 5-illegal immigrants arrested Monday are in the Bay County Jail. If convicted they could face up to 7-years each in prison.
The Florida Department of Children and Families now has a 6-month old child found within a few feet of the drugs. Link
Back east to Pennsylvania:
A 42-year-old illegal immigrant who said he’s been living in the United States for 22 years has admitted he lured a teenage girl into his Easton home.
Federico Balbuena, a native of Mexico, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of luring. In exchange, indecent assault, interfering with the custody of children, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and promoting prostitution charges were dropped.
Northampton County Judge F.P. Kimberly McFadden sentenced Balbuena to serve seven to 14 months in the county jail. She said Balbuena, who has been in the prison since the incident on April 7, 2007, could be paroled only to federal immigration officials, who have lodged a detainer. Link
Westward to Idaho:
An illegal immigrant accused of assisting his wife in a theft case was sentenced in Madison County Monday.
Carlos Martinez-Acosta is accused of knowingly keeping a four wheeler his wife had stolen from Rexburg Motor Sports.
In October, his wife, Araceli Lopez, was sentenced and turned over to I.N.S.
Monday Carlos received a suspended sentence of one to five years in prison but he will be also be turned over to I.N.S. and sent back to Mexico. Link
From petty crime to felonies. Each crime, a crime that didn’t have to happen, takes away from the quality of life in America.

The big story, of course, is the strong showing by Mike Huckabee, who has a good chance at a consolation-prize vice presidency under overall winner John McCain. This is, unfortunately, a defeat for the conservative movement. It may be a…

Hillary Health Care Plan Must Really Work

It is ridiculous how many people don’t want to secure our borders. Our current policies are endangering the wellbeing of the United States for generations to come. I think the first step is to eliminate the incentives of illegal immigrants to come. Unfortunately, some in Congress want to increase the incentive by providing subsidized college education to illegal immigrants. This will only encourage them to stay. I found a petition which is trying to stop this problem before it’s too late, and, as we get more signatures, money is donated to help the Border Patrol protect America.

We must stand strong at this crucial point in America’s history.

Chris,
Thanks for the comment. I don’t understand the mindset that promotes illegal immigration.
The problem is, that it comes from both the left and the right.
New drinking game
John McCain will speak at CPAC, the grassroots conservative conference, tomorrow. A good time to take a slight break from this political campaign season, or at least deaden our senses to the pain that may be inflicted upon us soon.
McCain at CPAC, will it be enough?
Words and more words, but what of actions? No doubt McCain will try to reach out to conservatives. After all, we’ve only go two eyes to poke at and he already did that some time ago. But a speech is a very difficult way …

Well, Berkeley was nice enough to videotape their session, and I managed to upload to YouTube some interesting clips:
